Sir CV Raman, the prominent personality who ignited Raman effect revolutionized the field of Physics in the world and occupied a place of pride in the patheon of great physicists across the globe. A pains taking series of investigations culminated in the discovery of Raman effect on 28th February, 1928 for which he was awarded the Nobel prize in 1930. Expressed in a simple term, Raman found that when the light is scattered by a medium, it suffers a shift in a frequency (i.e., in Colours) and that shift depending on the detailed structure of the scattered light.
