The disciple being lured by the abundance of cheap food he refuses to leave the place with the saint. Saint finds it foolish to stay in that place.

One day while seeking justice, a man approached the king. The man stated that the wall of man's house fell upon his brother while they were committing his ancient trade of theft and he died. The king being foolish thinks for compensation for the criminal. Instead of analyzing properly he tried upon everyone - The man who built the wall, the owner of the house- Rich merchant, because of which the builder built the weak wall- a Dancing girl and lastly the goldsmith because of whom in the street the dancing girl was roaming.  Upon much thinking, the king decided the real culprit to be the merchant's father who is already dead. Now that the father is dead since the son inherited the property the king decided to punish the son. To be killed by the stake, the merchant thought that the merchant was too thin. Therefore, the king in foolishness asks his men to fin in place of the merchant a fat man. Therefore, the disciple who grows fat is taken to the king and the disciple pray to his guru. Guru upon visualizing the pray of disciple appears and traps the foolish king through his wisdom and intelligence. Explanation:

The story ‘The Kingdom of Fools’ is a translation of a Kannada story.

There once lived a foolish King and his minister who wanted to rule their country in a manner different from other kingdoms. They made a law that henceforth, the day would be night and night would be the day. The people would have to work by night and sleep during the day. Anyone who disobeyed would be killed.

One day a Guru and his disciple happened to come there. The Guru on seeing that people slept during the day decided that this was a Kingdom of fools and decided to leave. But, his disciple a food lover wanted to stay as food was very cheap and all that he wanted was food. He ate and ate and became fat while his Guru left.

One day there was a theft and while the thief stole and tried to escape the wall of the rich man’s house collapsed and the thief died.  The thief’s son went to the King to get justice stating that his father died while performing his duty because the merchant had not built a strong wall. The King decided that the merchant should die as he did not build a strong wall without realizing that the thief was at fault.

The merchant was summoned to the King’s Court where he said that it was the bricklayer’s fault and not his. The brick layer passed on the fault to a woman, who in turn blamed a goldsmith who in turn blamed the merchant once again.

The stake to execute was being prepared and just as he was to be executed, the king and his minister felt that the merchant was too thin to do justice to the stake. So, they wanted a fat man who turned out to be the fat disciple. The disciple learning that he was to be executed cried out to his Guru for help who landed there due to his mystic powers.

He made out a plan and made out a drama that he should be killed before his disciple. Wanting to know the reason, the King asked the Guru who told him that whoever died first through this stake of justice would be the King of this city in the next birth and that whoever died next would be the Minister.

The King and the Minister who wanted to continue being the King and Minister came up with a plan. They made out an order that the criminals should be executed that night. On that night the King and Minister dressed up as the Guru and his disciple and the executioners executed them.

The next day the people of the Kingdom realized that they were the King and the Minister. They later pleaded with the guru and his disciple to come and rule the city which the Guru and his disciple did.
