“A Question of Space”- summary
“A Question of Space” is a very thought provoking short story by Neera Kashyap.
It deals with the immense pressure today's generation of students are under and how they can cope with it.
The story centres round a class eleven student-Vikrant.
Vikrant is the only child of rich and influential doctor parents who want him to be a doctor like them.
He is always pressurised to study harder and has no free time as he has to hop from one Tuition class to the other.
Vikrant is on the verge of a nervous break down when he chances upon a photo journalist -Anuj.
Anuj advises him how to manage his stress. He asks him to first observe his body movements when he is agitated.
Once he has identified them he then should react oppositely to those reactions. If he gets angry and excited he should become calm and pacified.
Slowly through his self observation Vikrant succeeds his self improvement. He no longer gets angry with his parents or stressed with work. He settles down comfortably in his space.
