INTRODUCTION:
The poem is about a 'Women' who burnt herself. In this Poem the Author explained about the Domestic Violence.
The Poem "Another Women" is written by Ms. Imtiaz Dharker. She explained about the Violence that is being experienced by Women in the present Society. The people live in the Society should Respect the Women and should recognise them.
SUMMARY OF THE POEM:
In the Poem, The Women who got married went to the Market to but Vegetables. She bought Fresh green 'Methi (fenugreek)' and wished to buy a White Raddish which is known for it's Crunch (Crush with the Teeth, making aloud) and taste. But she puts it aside thinking that it is an Extravagance (Spending anything more than neccessary in an uncontrolled way). She counted her coins carefully and tied them in a small bundle into her Saree at the Waist. When she came back Home, she faced the harsh behaviour of her Mother-in-Law. She took the 'Methi' bundle and cut it into small pieces. She added fine Onion pieces to the 'Methi' and made the Curry. When she was cooking the curry she tried to protect/shield her face from the heat.
Her Mother-in-Law started again to curse her for spending Money. She did not leave her parents too. She rebuked (an expression of sharp Disapproval or Criticism) her parents for their sending that girl who darkens their house. It was all not a new thing for her. So, she sat crounching (to lower one's body close to the ground by bending one's knees completely) beside the Stove. Then, her husband came home but she did not raise her head. In fact she bent her back a little more.
There she had no Right to Speak about anything. She sat watching the flames which hissed up and beat against a Old pot. Hence, this was the house she has been sent to by her Parents, this was the man she had been bound into and this is the World which she has been born into. Now, there was no other choice for her. The only option left in front of her was to take her Life. So, submitted herself to fire by throwing the Kerosene. There are so many Women who are bearing Severe tortures at present.
The Women in the Poem is representative turning off our faces from these harsh realities in the Society. We should pay Attention in such incidents. We should bring awareness in the people and in the Society. In this Story/Poem if we observe, One Women was the Enemy of an "ANOTHER WOMEN".
