Summary writing - Sir Philip Sydney was a British General. He was wounded by a musket-shot at
the battle of Zutphen. Other soldiers took him to the camp. He was very thirsty
and wanted a cup of water. But there was scarcity of drinking water in the
area. A cup of water was however, collected and given to the wounded General.
He was about to put the cup to his lips when he noticed that a poor wounded
soldier was looking at the cup wistfully. The generous and gallant General
Sydney offered the cup to the soldier. The soldier said, Your life is more
valuable than mine. Please drink it, Sir.' Handing the cup of water over to the
poor man the great General said. "Thy necessity is greater than mine.?
