In this poem the poet introduced two way of leading life ... one through the vision of a caged birds which has been restricted from being going out .. the caged bird is provided with all the food and shelter but the freedom has been taken away .. whereas the freely moving bird has been given the opportunity to move freely throughout the entire sky and can do any thing it want .... Here the poet actually depicted the condition of White Americans over the black people ... where the black people were tortured by the white american because of their coloure ... dark complexion ... which refers to recial prejudice .....
