sunflower is an example of capitulum inflorescence. it is not a flower because
1 the the green coloured part which appears like sepal is actually a ray floret which are zygomorphic sessile flowers
2 the yellow coloured part which appears like petals are actually disc floret arranged on receptacle which are bisexual flowers
hence sunflower is not a flower but a group of flowers

⚫it's lay florets lack either of the male and female gametes,stamens and pistils,therefore it is neuter and it has lost its ability to perform sexual reproduction. But the real flower is the brown patches present in the inner sides.
