Sunita is as twice as old as Ashima. If six years is subtracted from Ashima's age and 4 years added to Sunitas age, then Sunita will be four times Ashima’s age. How old were they two years ago?

  \bf {Solution} :-

Let the age of Ashima be x years

  \therefore The age of Sunita will be 2x years

According to the question,

4(x – 6) = 2x + 4

4x – 24 = 2x + 4

4x – 2x = 4 + 24

2x = 28

x =   \frac {\cancel{28}\: \: 14}{\cancel2}

x = 14

  \therefore Age of Ashima = 14 years

Age of Sunita = 2 × 14 = 28 years

So,

Two years ago Ashima's age = (14 – 2) = 12 years

Two years ago Sunita's age = (28 – 2) = 26 years

   \bf Two \: years \: ago,\: age \: of \: Ashima \: was \: 12 \: years \: and \: age \: of \: Sunita \: was \: 26 \: years \: [Ans]
