Aim of the experiment- Sunlight is required for photosynthesis

Requirements - A potted plant, beaker, burner, test tube, petri dish, rectified spirit or ethanol, iodine, black chart paper.

Procedure -

  1. We take a potted plant and cover a part of one of its leaves with a black chart paper and keep it in the sunlight for 2-3 days.
  2. we then take off that very leaf from the plant and test it for starch by buy first removing the chlorophyll using the ethanol then ,by placing it into a petri dish and putting some drops of iodine and saying if the colour turns into dark that blue from its purplish pink colour.

Explanation:

Observation and inference - we see that the pirplish pink colour of iodine changes to dark black blue when put in the leaf leaving the area which was covered by the Black chart paper indicating sunlight to be an important part of photosynthesis process.
