Positive degree of comparison-

  1. Riddhi is an intelligent girl.

The comparative degree of comparison-

  1. Riddhi is more intelligent than most other students in the class.
  2. Sunflowers are prettier than roses.

The superlative degree of comparison-

  1. Riddhi is the most intelligent student in the class.
  2. The sunset is the prettiest view.

A sentence that is in the superlative degree, has the highest level of comparison.

  • It usually involves either addition of 'est' at the end of the adjective or 'the most' before the said adjective.
  • There is a compulsory addition of the article 'the'.

A sentence that is in the comparative degree of comparison, has a mild level of comparison.

  • It involves either the addition of 'er' at the end of the adjective or 'more' before the said adjective.

On the other hand, a sentence that is in a positive degree of comparison has the following characteristics-

  • There is very less comparison.
  • The simplest form of the adjective is used.
