Two tests for each a solution of a dilute acid and alkali are :-
- In order to distinguish between acids and bases we use acid-base indicators. Acid-base indicators show different colour for both acids and bases .
- Two common examples are Turmeric and Phenolphthalein
- Turmeric is a natural acid-base indicator. When tested with acids it turns into lemon yellow while when tested with bases it turns to reddish-brown.
- Phenolphthalein is a synthetic acid-base indicator usually used during titrations. When tested with acids it turns colourless. While when tested with bases it turns to pink.
