Suppose a boy first runs a distance of 100 metres in 50 seconds in going from his home to the shop in the East direction, and then runs a distance of 100 metres again in 50 seconds in the reverse direction from the shop to reach back home from where he started
What will be the displacement of the boy?
(i) 200 m (ii) 0 m (iii) 150 m (iv) -200 m Find the average speed of the boy.
(i) 1 m/s (ii) 2 m/s (iii) 3 m/s (iv) none of these
c. Find the velocity of the boy.

Given : the boy first runs a distance of 100 metres in 50 seconds in going from his home to the shop in the East direction, and then runs a distance of 100 metres again in 50 seconds in the reverse direction from the shop to reach back home from where he started
To Find:
What will be the displacement of the boy?
(i) 200 m (ii) 0 m (iii) 150 m (iv) -200 m
Find the average speed of the boy.
(i) 1 m/s (ii) 2 m/s (iii) 3 m/s (iv) none of these
c. Find the velocity of the boy.
(i) 10m/s (ii) 4m/s (iii) 0 m/s (iv) 2 m/s
Solution:
Displacement = Final Position - Initial Position
as boy returns back to original position
Hence Final Position - Initial Position = 0
=> Displacement = 0 m
velocity = Displacement / Time
=> Velocity = 0/(50 + 50) = 0 m/s
Average Speed = Total Distance / Total Time
=>Average Speed = (100 + 100)/(50 + 50)
=> Average Speed = 2 m/s
