suppose a dam is 250m wide and the water is 40m deep at the dam. what is 1) the average pressure on the dam ,2) The force exerted against the dam due to the wate .​

Given :

width of dam = 250 m

depth of water = 40 m

hₐ = 20 m

1) The average pressure P = ρghₐ ; where hₐ is the average depth of water

  ⇒ P = 1000kg/m³ x 9.81 m/s² x 20 m

  ⇒ P = 196.2 kpa.

2) The force exerted against the dam due to the water = PxA

    ⇒  F = PxA = 196.2 kpa x ( 250x40)

    ⇒ F = 1.962 x 10⁷ KN.
