The net force on crate will be 20 units and the body comes in motion.

Explanation:

When more than one force is acting on any body, the resultant forces is calculated by adding all the individual forces by taking direction of the forces into consideration.

BALANCED FORCE

  • In the case of balanced force, the body is acted upon by forces in opposite direction.
  • When equal forces act in each direction, it results in zero net force. And the body remains in equilibrium state.

UNBALANCED FORCE

  • When the force of direction is applied only in one direction, the net force is non-zero.
  • Or when the forces acting on each side is not equal, then the net resultant force decides the direction of motion.
  • There is acceleration in the system as a result of non zero resultant force.

Here, the net force acting on the crate is unbalanced because both the forces are being applied in the same direction.

Let girl A applies a pull force of 10 u in a conventional positive direction, so force of 10 u applied by girl B will also be in  positive direction.

Net force:

(+10)+(+10)=+20

So, there is motion in the crate with a force of 20u.
