copper is very high in its reactivity series, it would not have been a very useful metal.
Copper is least reactive in nature.
This is the most important feature that comes into play when determining the usefulness of a metal.
Sometimes the highly reactive material is not useful too.
However, copper is mainly used for electrical connectivity, zinc and aluminium coatings are still protecting the copper from external climate.
hope this help you;)

Let's see in attatchment. Copper is less reactive metal. Copper is very usefull metal. Now question arrises, would it be still useful if was in top?
Till where I believe, answer is "no". Metals which occupy top most position are very reactive. They react in air even and also with water when comes in contact. They burn vigoursly. They can't be used in directly because they can cause fire where ever they are kept even with small air or water contact.
Therefore, copper if also be top then it can not be used as effeciently as is now. So, copper would not be as useful as it is now.
Have great future ahead!
