Suppose perstalysis stops what problems could animal face

Peristalsis is the wave of constrictions caused by the circular muscles of the gut pushing the food along.
If this process stops then the food would not pass into the stomach and other parts and so the nutrients present in it would not be utilised and the waste materials present in the food won't be thrown out hence we would not be able to digest food.
