Suppose that Wing Commander abhinandan are 80 kg. If F-16 drops the support of M-21 and jumps to a height of 1000 m. If they fall freely to the height of half the height, then after getting slowed due to the parachute, they reach the final velocity of 10 m / s on the ground, then the work done by the resistance force will be:

Potential energy = mgh

where

m = mass

g = acceleration due to gravity = 9.8 m/s^2

h = height.

Wing commander potential energy at height 1000m =

80*g*1000 = 80000g = 784000

All this energy should be converted to kinetic energy when he come to ground.

Final velocity on ground = 10 m/s

Kinetic Energy = mv²/2

KE = 80*10*10/2 = 4000.

The difference in PE and KE = PE – KE = 784000 – 4000 = 78000.

Hence work done is 78000 Joule by the parachute resistance force.
