Suppose we represent the distance above the ground by a positive integer and the ground by a negative integer, then answer the following:
I) An elevator descends into a mine shaft at the rate of 6 meter per minute. What will be it's position after one hour?

II) If it begins to descends from 15 meter above the ground, what will be it's position after 45 minutes?

With the steps please ☺️

Answer:

Since downwards is negative, the velocity of the elevator is -5 m/min.

(i) Displacement = Velocity x Time

= -5 m/min x 60 min

= -300 m.

(ii) Displacement from initial position

= Velocity x Time

= -5 m/min x 45 min

= -225 m.

However, since we started 15 m above ground, displacement from the ground level = -225 + 15 m = -210 m.

please mark it as brainliest answer ✌️✌️

hope it will be helpfull........

Answer:

I) Speed of the elevator: 6m/min

time = 1 hour = 60 minutes

now. by the formula

speed= distance/time

we know that

distance = speed*time

distance covered by the elevator= 6*60 = 360 meters

given elevator descends down; therefore distance covered by the elevator= -360 m

II) first let's calculate the total distance

speed= 6m/min

time= 45 minutes

distance covered = 6*45= 270 metres

Now considering the signs also

it starts its journey at +15 m and travels down to 270 m

position= -255m (since 270-15 = 255m at which it will be at zero level)
