Suppose y varies inversely as x. If y = 2 when x = 14, how do you find y when x = 7?

given

x  \: proportional  \frac{1}{y}

x = k \times \frac{1}{y}

where k is constant

as y=2

andx =14

k = xy \\  \\ k = 14 \times 2 \\  \\ k = 28

now x=7so

7 = 28 \times  \frac{1}{y }  \\ y =  \frac{28}{7}  \\  \\ y = 4

y=4
