Alone in the Rain
During the school holidays, my dad, mom and myself went to our village. We had a small self-sufficient cottage there, located in a large and wooded 10 acres compound. Ours was the only house in the area.
One day dad and mom had gone to the market which was quite far away. It was evening and all of a sudden, the sky turned dark. The wind started blowing outside I could hear the tree branches creaking and groaning. Suddenly there was a bright flash followed by a very loud crackling thunder. A burnt smell filled the air. Then, without any warning the heavens opened up and it started raining. Large drops of rain water thudded on the tiled roof. Fortunately for me, dad and mom arrived just then and I was spared the terrifying ordeal of sitting all alone inside the cottage, with the violence of nature continuing outside.
