suppose you are told that the linear size of everything in the universe has been doubled overnight can you test the statement by measuring size with a metre stick? Can you test it by using the fact that the speed of light is a Universal constant and has not changed? what will happen if all the clocks in the universe also start running at half the speed
Answers
since doubling the size of universe will double linear size of anything present in it so we can't measure it by any meter scale.
using speed of light as universal constt. we can prove it , becoz light will take double time to travel between two points as compared with the previous universe.
coming to the 2nd situation if clocks start to run at half the speed then light takes half the time to travel the dist. as compared to the original universe.
but if we combine both the phenonmena of doubling the linear size and halving the speed of clocks then it can't be measured by taking speed of light as universal constt. also. becoz the doubling of size makes and halving of time cancels each other. giving same speed.
Answer:
In the first situation:
as the linear size of everything has increased so the size of the stick would also increase hence we can measure the difference using the stick!!!
We can measure the change using the fact that speed of light is a universal constant!!!
in the second situation:
If the clock moves at a speed half of the original one the. the light would take double time to cover a distance hence all our calculations would be proved wrong in seconds!!!
