suppose you use the capture/recapture method to come up with an estinate of 200 fish living in a pond. Assume that this result is accurate to within 20% of the estimate. a) If P is the actual number of fish, write an inequality to describe the minimum number of fish in the pond b) write an inequality to describe the maximum number of fish in the pond.

Answer:

One way to estimate how many fish are in a lake is to use the capture-recapture method. Suppose you capture 100 fish, tag them, then release them back in to the lake. Later, you capture 100 fish again, and count 12 that are tagged. Now assume the the ratio of tagged to untagged fish in the same in your sample as in the entire lake and estimate the number of fish in the lake.

Answer: P>= 200-20%200

That is p>= 160

And p<= 200+20%200

P<=240

Combined

160 <= p <= 240
