think the two most important pieces of advice would be
1) learn the local language (as much as possible ahead of time, too) even if the coursework is in English.
2) make friends with the local students
After that, other things such as travelling within the local region, taking any opportunity to visit fellow students’ homes, limiting time spent communicating with people back home, putting any casual romantic relationship on hold or just breaking off it if it's casual, and doing her best to live like a local while there will all increase the value of her time abroad.
