This means percentage of boys = 100 - 60% = 40%

But we are given number of boys = 2448

This means 40% = 2448

$\frac{40}{100} \times total \: student \: = 2448 \\ = > total \: student \: = 2448 \times \frac{100}{40} \\ = > total \: student \: = 6120$

So clearly number of students in the college is 6120

If you want to know the number of girls we can calculate as

$\frac{60}{100} \times 6120 \\ = > 3672$
Hence total number of students = 6120
And number of girls = 3672
