Supriya, while doing an experiment in the Science Laboratory, kept a laboratory
thermometer ‘P 10 cm away on one side of the flame of a candle. Her friend
Riya kept a similar thermometer 'Q' 10 cm above the flame of the candle as
shown in the figure.

This is because it is in contact with air that is in direct contact with the flame of candle therefore due to warm air, the temperature of Q will be high. Since, temperature is the measurement of heating therefore, the more warm area will show high temperature compare to less warm area.
