Concept

In this type of question, assume the beginning amount be x so that it can help in making equation according to the amount spend .

Given

We have been given that Suresh spends one-third of his salary on rent ,  Rs.10,000 to purchase a new mobile phone and he spends one-half of the left amount on groceries and one-third on paying his bills and at the  of the month his balance is Rs.2000 .

Find

We are asked to determine the monthly salary of Suresh

Solution

Assume that initially he had Rs. x.

He spent \frac{1}{3}  on rent =\frac{1}{3} \times x

Remaining money =\frac{2}{3} \times x

He spent Rs. 10,000 on mobile phone (Remaining money) =\frac{2x}{3} -10000

He spent \frac{1}{2} of remaining money on groceries =\frac{1}{2} (\frac{2x}{3} - 10000)

He spent \frac{1}{3} of remaining money on paying his bills =\frac{1}{3} (\frac{2x}{3} -10000)

After, paying bills he left with the balance Rs. 2000 .

\frac{1}{3} (\frac{2x}{3} -10000)=2000\\\\\frac{2x}{3} -10000=6000\\\\\frac{2x}{3}=16000\\\\x=\frac{16000\times3}{2} \\x=24000

Therefore , the salary of Suresh is Rs. 24000 .
