Some metal lose their brightness when kept in air for long time this is because they are in continuous contact with air, moisture Oxygen and acids of atmosphere which facilitates the oxidation reaction of metals form metal oxide on its surface and hence lose its brightness in long run. This process of spoiling metal in long run termed as corrosion.
