1)Common cold - a seasonal disease with many factors. Mostly caused by Rhinoviral infection. Symptoms include inflammation of the upper respiratory tract.

2)Typhoid - largely behaviourally magnified and found in people with a penchant for eating food from unhygienic sources such as untrusted stalls. Also common in people with no access to safe water. Caused by Salmonella typhi.

3)Sickle cell anaemia - genetic disease caused by the substitution of amino acids. Although classified as rare, is quite common in tribals and women.

4)TB - Bacterial disease that affects lungs, lypmh nodes, bones, joints. Variable incubation period. Caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis that releases tuberculin. India is said to be "a Tuberculosis bank", accounting for 40% of the world's cases.

5) Dengue - One of the deadliest. Earlier it was said to be a seasonal fever. Now it has become more chronic than ever and poses a serious threat to the population. Causative agent is Arbovirus. Is mosquito borne and can be controlled better than treated.
