I think the poet is not selfish. because if you want to survive you have to be selfish. ex- imagine you are ill and so are three people with you, whome you do not know, and you have just one medicine. so, naturally you would want to use it to survive and most probabbly you will fight for it. if not, then you die. so if you want to live you have to be selfish. This idea is expressed by the narrator.
