Sushma brought a saree from the mall. She paid 2640 for it. When she came home she measured the length of the saree and found that the saree was half meter less in length than what the shopkeeper had told her. She found that she is at a loss of 220 because of this. What is the length of the saree she bought home ?

Let the length of the sari be `x`m
cost of 1/2 m = Rs220
then cost of 1 m = 2 × Rs 220 = Rs440
Cost of the sari = x × Rs 440 = Rs 440x
But given that the cost of the sari = Rs 2640
⇒ 440x = 2640
⇒ x = 2640/440
∴ x = 6
∴ The length of the sari = x m = 6m
cost of 1/2 m = Rs220
then cost of 1 m = 2 × Rs 220 = Rs440
Cost of the sari = x × Rs 440 = Rs 440x
But given that the cost of the sari = Rs 2640
⇒ 440x = 2640
⇒ x = 2640/440
∴ x = 6
∴ The length of the sari = x m = 6m

Given:
2,640 total amount paid.
220 cost of half meter.
220 ÷ 1/2 ⇒ 220 * 2 = 440 cost of one meter
2,640 / 440 = 6 meters.
6 meters - 0.5 meters = 5.5 meters.
Sushma bough home 5.5 meters of saree.
