The issue of the sustainability is important for development because: it requires preservation of stock of the resources including exhaustible natural resource and environmental resources. recent studies show that groundwater in india is exhausted because of overuse. 1/3 of the country is overusing it's groundwater resources.

Sustainable development of the environment has now become an urgent issue.

Explanation:

  • Sustainable development is development that meets today's needs and does not hinder future generations' ability to meet their  needs. The basic principle of sustainable development seeks to create a balance between economic growth and environmental conservation  to meet the needs of present and future generations.
  • Over recent years, economic activities such as development and consumption have resulted in a degradation of the environment. That is evident from the fact that the environment has a certain carrying power. When the consumption rate of resources exceeds the regeneration rate, environmental activities fail to work. The effects are called degradation of the environment.
  • Resources are scarce and hence their use contributes to their extinction. The waste generated also exceeds the environmental absorption capacity. The unregulated disposal of waste in rivers and other ecosystems is rapidly polluting these rivers. This has resulted in low drinking water quality. In addition to depleting their limited reserves, the use of non-renewable resources has also contributed to pollution.
  • Global warming is largely due to the release into the atmosphere,  greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. Such gases can absorb heat and thus contribute to global warming. Other factors include deforestation and fossil fuels such as coal and oil. Global warming caused polar ice caps to melt and temperature increases on average across the globe. There is a need for collective action to tackle the global environmental crisis. This puts into practice the idea of sustainable development.
  • Substantial development includes a substantial rise in global per capita incomes (PCI), fair resource use, emissions controls, population management and increased dependence on renewable energy sources to meet the needs of future generations.
