As Mahatma Gandhi quoted, ‘Sanitation is more important than Independence,’ ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ or ‘Clean India Mission’ is a campaign that aims at cleaning up roads, infrastructures, streets, rural areas, smaller towns and cities of the country. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched this campaign on 2nd October 2014. This mission has become India’s largest drive till with more than 3 million college students, government employees, and school students from every nook and corner of the country participating in the campaign in cities, rural areas and towns. In reference to Gandhi’s ‘Champaran Satyagraha,’ this campaign has been called as ‘Satyagraha se Swachaagrah’ by the Prime Minister.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a cleanliness mission run by the Government of India. The campaign was officially launched by the Indian government on 2 October 2014 on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 145th birthday. It was started from Rajghat, New Delhi where Mahatma Gandhiji’s mausoleum is. The Government of India has set the objective of making the whole of India clean by 2 October 2019, which will be the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

It is a non-politics campaign inspired by patriotism. It is the responsibility of every person that his country is clean and the participation of every Indian citizen in this mission is also necessary. Special enthusiasm can be seen in this week among teachers and school students. They join it with great enthusiasm every year and contribute significantly in making the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ a success.

Under this, in March 2017, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has launched another cleanliness initiative. He has banned chewing paan, gutkha and other tobacco products in all government offices in Uttar Pradesh. Whatever the week, we should always take care of cleanliness and our same attitude will contribute towards making the country clean.
