The Swadeshi Movement began as a mark of protest to partition of Bengal in 1905. During the Swadeshi Movement, people were urged to boycott British goods. The use of khadi was promoted with much vigor. Women were asked to throw their silks and glass bangles.
But this could not succeed in popularizing khadi in india because the changes to such calls were limited to upper class women because the poor could not afford khadi. The movement did not have an effective organisation and party structure to be its vanguard.

Swadeshi could not succeed in popularising khadi because:
1) Khadi was costly and people who were poor could not buy them and majority of the populace were poor.
2) Khadi Mills came out late because of which when people returned back to British clothes imported.
EXPLANATION:
- The Swadeshi movement, which is part of the Indian movement for independence and the development of Indian nationalism, was an economic strategy to remove the British Empire from power and change the economic conditions in India in accordance with the principles of Swadeshi.
- Regeneration of indigenous products was the optimistic aspect of the Swadeshi economy. The boycott of foreign goods resulted in an increase in demand for indigenous goods especially clothing lacking in supply.
