when we swallow food the pharynx present closes the path of windpipe and open the path of food pipe for the food to go to the stomach. when we laugh while swallowing the food, the pharynx tends to open the windpipe instead of the food pipe, thus the food goes into the lungs which may lead to coughing, suffocation and even death.
