Good morning to all teachers and students present here. I am here to deliver a speech on Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda was a renowned writer, scholar, thinker, saint, and philosopher of contemporary India. He was born on January 12, 1863, in the city of joy Calcutta. His original name was Narendranath Dutta. His father Vishwanath Dutta was a learned man who has profound knowledge of both English and Persian. He was a successful Lawyer in the supreme court of Calcutta. His mother was a pious lady who influenced him from his childhood. She played a major role in shaping his character. She first taught Naren English lessons and made him familiar with the Bengali alphabets.

Education

Young Naren studied in the Metropolitan Institution at Calcutta and after passing the examination. He graduated from an English college in Calcutta and passed his B.A. examination, and further visited to study law. But after his father’s death, his family’s financial position did not allow him to prosecute further study.

He was an excellent singer. One day Ramakrishna Paramahamsa happened to hear him singing a devotional song. He asked the young man to see him at the Kali temple. Naren was very keen to see God face to face. He asked many religious saints about his desire, but none could satisfy him.

Ramakrishna Paramahamsa said to Naren that as one can see him, he can also see god in the same form. However, Naren was not convinced by his words. He wanted the saint to demonstrate it to him. As time passed, Naren had that wonderful heavenly experience in his life. He became the most dedicated disciple of the saint. His Guru taught him the most important lesson of his life ie We can experience God by serving humanity.

Ramakrishna Mission

With his teaching, Naren later established the Ramakrishna Mission on 1st May 1897 which is also working at a present-day engaged in offering voluntary welfare work for the poor and the needy people. After becoming a monk Naren was named Swami Vivekananda. He visited America to participate in the parliament of world religions held in Chicago in 1893.

In his deep lecture, Swami Vivekananda explained to the world that God is the one big sea, and all religions are like rivers ultimately merging in the sea. According to him, there should not be any dispute among the preachers of various religions that they worship God in separate forms or with different beliefs.

His belief in the eternal truth of one God can avoid hatred among the people. Swamiji’s view was lauded with great appreciation. Many people became his disciples who later joined the Ramakrishna Mission.

Swami Vivekananda’s Teachings

Swamiji’s teachings have left a great impact on Indian socio-cultural traditions. He was a great follower of Vedanta. His teachings focus on the themes of Vedas and Upanishads. He believes them to be the great sources of energy, wisdom, and strength.

Man is the builder of his own density. So each human being with his own capacity can guide himself and at the same time can play a key role in the society. All healthy social changes are the result of the spiritual forces working within ourselves.

Education provides a better standard of life to society. If the social life of the country will improve then only the nation will flourish. So Swami Vivekananda in his teachings had attached great significance to the role of education in building society.

For him, every single soul is divine. The aim is to channelize this divinity within by controlling nature’s external and internal nature. The divine soul of Swami Vivekananda left this world on4th July 1902.

Conclusion

My dear friends his name was written in golden letters in the history of India. He was a role model for not only the people of his country but to the whole world. We shall make efforts to inculcate his qualities and become a better person.

Thanks.
