SOLUTION

GIVEN

  • Swami walks to his school which is at a distance of 4 km from his home in 30 minutes.

  • On reaching he finds that the school is closed and comes back in his friend’s vehicle to home in 10 minutes.

TO DETERMINE l

The average speed of Swami in km/h

EVALUATION

Here it is given that Swami walks to his school which is at a distance of 4 km from his home in 30 minutes.

On reaching he finds that the school is closed and comes back in his friend’s vehicle to home in 10 minutes.

Total distance travelled

= 4 km + 4 km

= 8 km

Total time taken

= 30 + 10 minutes

= 40 minutes

= 40/60 hour

= 2/3 hour

Hence the required average speed of Swami

 \sf \: = \dfrac{8}{ \frac{2}{3} } \: \: km/h

 \sf \: = \dfrac{8 \times 3}{2 } \: \: km/h

 \sf \: = 12 \: \: km/h
