Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a national level campaign launched by the Government of India. This event was flagged off by president Pranab Mukherjee. It covers 4041 statutory towns to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country. This campaign had been officially launched on 2 October, 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself wielded the broom and cleaned a road. Modi addressed the citizens of India and asked everyone to join this campaign. The campaign is India's biggest ever cleanliness drive and 3 million government employees and schools and colleges students of India participated in this event.

This campaign aims to accomplish the vision of 'Clean India' by October 2019, 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi and is expected to cost over INR 62000 crore (US $10 billion). This campaign has been described as "beyond politics" and "inspired by patriotism".

India, our country is widely notorious for its unclean streets, offices and railway stations and more so for the poor civic sense of the Indians. Rightly so, because people can be seen littering, splitting and easing themselves in public just about everywhere. It's shameful and embarrassing.

When India is a contender for becoming a superpower, it's quite a regressive thing, that we are unable to keep our home, our country clean
