As Rani said, it is a wrong way of measuring temperature .
In laboratory therometer there will be no kink in the capillary tube.
When the temperature is taken out of hot water, mercury level in the temperature fall down as there is no kink in the capillary tube near the bulb to prevent the level of mercury falling on its own. Hope it will help you

I completely agree with Rani.
To read the temperature of hot water using laboratory thermometer we should read the temperature when the thermometer is in the water but not after taking it out of water.
