bacteria degrade or decompose the sugar and other food materials present in our mouth. by decomposing these bacteria relaese some acids which lowers the pH in your mouth i.e after decomposing these bacteria produce acids which may corrode tooth enamel or decay the teeth.
to prevent this we usually prefer toothpastes because these are basic in nature and also neutralise the effect of acid in our mouth.

Answer:
Sweet tooth leads to tooth decay. Which is caused by the action of Bacteria on food particles remaining in the mouth and acid is formed. The pH of the mouth falls below 5.5 and the tooth enamel dissolves resulting in cavities Toothpastes are generally basic, they neutralise the excess acid produced in the mouth and prevent tooth decay.
