take 1/4 to rhs and convert mixed fraction to improper fraction

t=-23/4-1/4

t=-24/4

t=-6

Given :

 t + \frac{1}{4} = -5\frac{3}{4}

Solution :

 -5\frac{3}{4} = - \frac{(5 \times 4) + 3}{4}

 = - \frac{23}{4}

 \implies t + \frac{1}{4} =  - \frac{23}{4}

by transposing

\leadsto t = -\frac{23}{4} - \frac{1}{4}

\leadsto t = \frac{-23 -1}{4}

\leadsto t = \frac{\cancel{-24}}{\cancel{4}}

 \purple{\leadsto t = -6}
