A plant having chromosomal constitution AA BC DD is a  tetrasomic cell plant. Tetrasomy is a type of condition of having an abnormal number of chromosomes in haploid set.

It is a cell nucleus condition where the cell gains two extra chromosomes of the same type.

  • In such a condition one chromosome occurs four times than the original number.
  • All other chromosomes are present in the normal number as they should be.
  • It is a very  rare condition and occurs in very rare cases.
  • After fertilization occurs , the resulting fetus will have 48 chromosomes instead of the normal 46 number.
  • The examples of tetrasomic constitution are as follows : tetrasomy 9p, tetrasomy 18p, tetrasomy 12p (Pallister-Kilian syndrome), tetrasomy 22 (Cat syndrome), 48 XXXX syndrome, 48 XYY syndrome, XXXY syndrome (Klinefelter’s syndrome).

Hence tetrasomic refers to a cell nucleus where a single chromosome occurs four times.
