Answer:

Heat transfer is classified into various mechanisms, such as thermal conduction, thermal convection, thermal radiation, and transfer of energy by phase changes. Engineers also consider the transfer of mass of differing chemical species, either cold or hot, to achieve heat transfer.

Conduction, Convection and Radiation

Key points to consider about them:

  • Conduction mostly occur in solid substances, substances that are close enough and substances whose molecules are not far apart. Most of the heat transmission examples we see are because of conduction. As heat is a kinetic energy, when molecules vibrate, the further touch other molecules to vibrate them also.
  • Convection occurs in liquid and gas. First few loose molecules will heat up first and then they will travel to other molecules to heat them up also.
  • Radiation doesn't need any medium to transfer heat, it transmits heat without the presence of any substance like air, water,or solid. Heat from the sun is a form of heat transmission through radiation.
