Procedure
• Uproot two healthy plants, one monocot plant and the other dicot plant.
• Wash the roots of the plants with water.
• Place both the plants on a drawing board which is covered with white paper.
. Observe the differences in the external features of roots, leaves, stems, flowers and seeds carefully
and note down the details.
• Study the leaves for their shape and venation.
. Carefully observe the flower and identify the different floral parts. Count the number of sepals, petals
and stamens in the flower. Take a transverse section of ovary and count the number of carpels.
• Remove the seed coat and count the number of cotyledons.
• Draw the diagrams of the observed features and compare them with the diagrams given in the
laboratory manual.
