Let the denominator be x.
So, numerator will be x-4.
According to Question , if 1 is added to both numerator and denominator , the new fraction is 1/2 →
(x-4+1)/(x+1) = 1/2
or, 2(x-3) = x+1
or, 2x-6 = x+1
or, 2x-x = 1+6
or, x = 7
Therefore , denominator is 7
Numerator = x-4 = 7-4 = 3
Fraction = 3/7
Answer → The fraction is 3/7.
