t was past midnight by the time our bus reached Jamshedpur, and I got down with my father and baby Heena. It was cold, dark, and foggy. I had arranged for a taxi to pick us up at the bus station, but it was nowhere in sight. Soon, the station became deserted.

As we were waiting, a tall, bulky man approached us and offered to carry our bags. He wasn’t wearing the usual porter’s red shirt and tag. Though I was reluctant, my father decided to hire him. Leaving Heena and me with the man, my father went to look for a taxi. I took a closer look at the man and felt apprehensive. He was big and hairy, his face had scars and his eyes looked bloodshot.

Just then Heena, who had been sleeping in my arms, awoke and turned to look at the porter. He gave a playful smile and held out his arms. Normally, she would start crying if she saw somebody she did not know. But she smiled back and twisted herself out of my arms into his.
a) Why did the author feel apprehensive looking at the man?
