Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan and on of the most populous city in the ex-Soviet central Asia. In Indian history, Tashkent has a valuable position as the Tashkent Agreement, (Jan. 10, 1966), accord was  signed by India's prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri  and Pakistan's president Ayub Khan, ending the 17-day war between Pakistan and India of August–September 1965 by the interference of USSR to stop the war.
