take a container and fill it with water. then put a piece of thermocol in it. then disturb the water through your hand. then if we observe, the thermocol moves upwards and downwards. why it is so? why it doesn't moves side wards?

because it's weight is so less or I think because of friction.for ex. if you put stone in water it goes down because of it's weight
