let us assume the seller levies a Vat of 5%

Bread - Quantity (2 Packets) - Cost - each packet 25 Rs ⇒ 2 packets = 50 Rs/-

Vat on bread = 50 × 5/100 = 2.5 Rs

The total bread price including vat is 50 + 2.5 = 52.5 Rs/-

Dried fruits - Quantity (1 Packet) - Cost - 150 Rs/-

Vat on Dried fruits = 150 × 5/100 = 7.5 Rs/-

the total Dried fruits price including vat is 150 + 7.5 = 157.5 Rs/-

Sweets and Chocolates - Quantity( 1 Packet) - Cost - 100 Rs/-

Vat on Sweets and Chocolates = 100 × 5/100 = 5 Rs/-

the total sweets and chocolates price including vat is 100 + 5 = 105 Rs/-

Mineral water - Quantity (2 Bottles) - Each bottle - 50 Rs ⇒ 2 bottles - 100 Rs/-

Vat on Mineral water = 100 × 5/100 = 5 Rs/-

the total mineral water price including vat is 100 + 5 = 105 Rs/-

Meat - Quantity (2 Kg) - Each Kg - 200 Rs ⇒ 2 Kg - 400 Rs/-

Vat on meat = 400 × 5/100 = 20 Rs

the total meat price including vat is 400 + 20 = 420 Rs/-

Cereals - Quantity (2 Kg) - Each Kg - 50 Rs ⇒ 2 Kg - 100 Rs/-

Vat on Cereals = 100 × 5/100 = 5 Rs/-

the total Cereals price including vat is 100 + 5 = 105 Rs/-

Eggs - Quantity (20 eggs) - Each egg - 5 Rs ⇒ 20 Eggs - 100 Rs/-

Vat on Eggs = 100 × 5/100 = 5 Rs/-

the total eggs price including vat is 100 + 5 = 105 Rs/-

Apples - Quantity (10 apples) - Each apple - 10 Rs ⇒ 10 Apples - 100 Rs/-

Vat on Apples = 100 × 5/100 = 5 Rs/-

the total Apples price including vat is 100 + 5 = 105 Rs/-

Now Total Bill of the Purchased Grocery items = Sum of Total costs of each item + Sum of Vat's on each item

⇒Total Bill of the Purchased Grocery items = (50 + 150 + 100 + 100 + 400 + 100 + 100 + 100) + (2.5 + 7.5 + 5 + 5 + 20 + 5 + 5 + 5)

⇒ Total Bill of the Purchased Grocery items = 1100 + 55(Vat) = 1155 Rs/-

Verification :

Now let us directly calculate the Vat for 1100 Rs/-

we assumed that Vat = 5%

Vat = 5/100 × 1100 = 55 Rs/-

Total Bill of the Purchased Grocery items = Total Cost of items + Vat

⇒Total Bill of the Purchased Grocery items = 1100 + 55 = 1155 Rs/-

Anonymous: item - apples. . .price - (10 * 10) = 100. . .vat - 5%. . .price including vat - - 100 + 5% of 100 = 100 + 5 = 105

The price of a mobile phone is
$8800 inclusiveof a 10% GST (General Sales Tax). What is the original price of the mobile phone?

This is how I approached it:

The Sale Price SP of the phone, i.e. it's Original Price OP (sale price excluding GST) + GST on it, is $8800:

SP = OP + GST ---(1)

But we don't have the GST, we only have it's percentage. So let's calculate out GST from the percentage/rate:

GST-in-Percentage = (GST / SP) * 100 => 10 = (GST / 8800) * 100 => GST = 880

Now, putting values in (1):

8800 = OP + 880 => OP = 8800 - 880 => OP = 7920
this is my way to solve the problem if I got to a mobile shop
hope it helps
