Take a plastic plate and a stainless steel plate at room temperature. The stainless steel plate will feel colder. Why?
ii) Place an ice cube on both the plates and observe the speed at which ice melts. Which of the ice cube would melt first and at a faster pace? State your observations.
iii) What do you conclude from both the activities?

Answer:

the ice will melt first on stainless steel because steel is conductor of heat wheras plastic is not.

iii) we observe that stainless steel is conductor of heat and the room temaprature is over the melting point. but plastic is not so it will take itsfull time to melt

I. this is because stainless steel is made up of metal and hence they are good conductors of heat and hence they are heated or cooled up very fast

Explanation:

  • 2.ice cube which is placed on the stainless steel plate will be melted faster
  • 3. the conclusion is that the good conductors of heat will get heated up faster and also will cool down faster. This is because they have high coefficient of heat capacity , on the other hand there is is the poor conductors of heat  which needs more time to get heated up or cooled down
