Take a small amount of salt, sugar and sand. Investigate their properties by it's taste, smell, mixing it with water, mixing it with oil, grinding it with stone, etc.

Soluble and insoluble substance in water -

Salt, sugar, honey, glucose, copper sulphate crystals are soluble in water.

Mustard oil, sawdust, sand, wheat flour, petals of flowers chalk powder and soils are insoluble in water.
